So yesterday I had a check engine light.

Brought it to the dealer and was told the PCM found P0016, requires removal of engine to replace the timing Phasers.

$5154.63 before tax.  WTH?

Can anyone comment on this one?

I noticed when I picked up the car the engine light is out.  Not sure if it's just been reset or not.

I had the same code on my 2010 Lincoln MKZ with the 3.5.  It ended up being a clogged VCT solenoid, which was not expensive and was easily replaced by popping off the front valve cover.  Dealers have a habit of recommending large and expensive part replacements instead doing actual diagnosis and repair, so I'd take their word with a grain of salt.  The VCT solenoid has some pretty small passages and they get clogged easily, so this is not an uncommon issue.  You can often get rid of the code by running some Seafoam in the crankcase oil, but it will eventually come back.

Thanks for the feedback.  I have about 126,000KMs on mine.  I'll look into this.  The engine light just came back on today.
