Hey guys, I bought a 2010 key fob thinking that it would be compatible with my 2009 MKS. I get it in, have the emergency key cut at the dealership, then following the instructions in the user manual I program the new fob in the pocket in the glovebox.
It all seemed to go fine, the car says there is 3 fobs programmed, I then remove the fob and press the unlock button like the instructions say and it works unlocking the car but the START light is still flashing rapidly. I press hte lock button and that locks the car, so I press on the brake and press the start button which starts the car (forgetting that I have both of my original fobs in the car at the time as well).
So, I get out, relocate the two original keyfobs away from the car, get back in and go to start the car and it says "No FOB Detected". So I press the lock/unlock buttons and they both work just fine, but notice that they do not activate the power seat memory tho. Next I put the the fob in the pocket in the glovebox and proceed to start the car and VOILA, the car starts right up. Upon removing the fob from the glovebox and shutting off the car, the display warns that no fob is detected and to restart if I want now.
Obviously the fob is not working in transponder mode unless it is in the pocket.
Does anyone know if there is some sort of difference between the 2009 and 2010 fobs?
Or is the behavior I am seeing "normal" and to get the fob to work as a transponder out of the pocket do I need to get the dealership to program all three fobs together from scratch?
Any and all input is appreciated...
