What are you finding the car is averaging, city and highway? Also, would premium gas get better mileage?

We are averaging around 19mpg with ours and we have a pretty good mix of highway and city driving. Don't know on the premium, we only run regular unleaded in ours.

I will test regular vs premium when I get mine. They are only promising slightly more horsepower with premium. It stands to reason that they would promise better mileage if they could. Yet, it stands to reason that if more power is available, it might translate to better efficiency if driven conservativley. Then again, when I do the math, a few extra miles per gallon does not translate to a lot of money on my modest 13,000 miles/year.

I did find (somewhere) in the Owner's manual that mileage (all around, city or highway) should not be checked until at least 3,000 miles are on the odometer, at which time the car will have been properly "broken in". Also, it mentions the fact that your new MKS should be driven at various speeds (don't stick to one speed, especially on the freeway) when the car is new. This is so the new engine will be properly broken in.

For what it is worth to those looking for information, I just passed 1000 miles on my MKS with a combination of city and highway use. My average is 22.3 MPG. Highway segments get way above even the 24 MPG stated, but getting that 5000 pound car through stops and starts around town really takes a toll.

AWD with about 2600 miles. Average 19.5 to 20.5. Tried a couple of tanks of premium and could tell no difference in gas mileage but the performance did seem to be better. Most of my driving is rural roads and some city. I tend to use the SST mode until the 6th gear is needed then kick it over to D. Gotta love downshifting..:)

Just an update to my prior post. I took my first extended highway trip yesterday and averaged just under 27 mpg (FWD model). Lovin' it - sure beats the 17 mpg I traded in with my Yukon.

I've got about 2500 miles on my AWD MKS, so take these numbers with a grain of salt. I drive probably 75% city, 25% highway, and have been using 87 octane Regular fuel. Combined MPG so far is about 20-21. On a business trip I took to Boston last week, however, I got about 24 MPG on the highway.

Just completed a 2100 mile trip with 4400 miles on our 2WD car. Using regular gas and speed control at 75 mph we averaged 27 mpg. The car has a sweet spot between 65-70 when in will get 30 mpg at sea level. In town, use only the sport mode on the transmission, it is easier to drive and gets better mileage at 21-22 mpg.

Mine is still breaking in....less than 600 miles total so far on the odo, but took a 100 mile trip today and averaged 28.7 MPG on the highway. I would be LUCKY to get 26 with the STS that my mkS replaced.

4800 miles thus far on the odometer and counting. Using 91 Octane at 6000ft above sea level I've been averaging 19-21mpg with a 50/50mix of highway and secondary road driving. In the past, I've achieved 23-26mpg on some 100 mile road trips.

Only have 600 miles on mine right now waiting until the 1,000 hits where the car is broke in but right now I am only getting about 17mpg mostly in town maybe 25% freeway. Sounds like the mpg increases once you break in the engine...good news thanks.

I have about the same city/highway mix and with just over 6,000 miles I'm getting around 19 mpgs.

Over six months, and 15,000 miles, I have averaged 24.1 mpg. On highway trips at modest speeds, I have hit 29-30 mpg.

I try to keep the tires inflated at or above the pressure on the door jamb, and I mostly use Chevron Supreme gasoline. I live on the coast, so sea level is generally 0-50 ft. Although on paper there does not appear to be a big difference in the performance of regular and super unleaded, I have noticed a difference in the way the car drives.

:hyper:

Last week, had to take a trip out to Pa, from Jersey, did 289 miles roundtrip, took 9.? gals,
which made my average over 29 mpg - really fantastic. When on the trip, at times, the mpg indicator showed over 30 mpg, which is almost unreal for a car this size.

Now that many of us are comparing gas mileage, it would be helpful to know if the car is FWD or AWD, A/C on or off, how many passengers, fuel grade, etc. So far, my best average mileage is 19.8. That is alone or with one passenger, AWD, A/C on 20%of the time, regular gas, mixed city/highway. I'm getting a case of economy-envy hearing about the 28s and 29s. I may have to take a road trip, alone, and pay for premium, on a cool day, just to feel better.
